In Search of a new Rickroll
Now that Rick Astley has appeared on the muthafuckin' Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade lip-syncing to "Never Gonna Give You Up". It's time to put Rickrolling to bed.
To honor this acheivement by the Internet, I say we start over with a new song to "rickroll" people with.
But first:
A LOOK BACK AT RICKROLLING:
It became number one throughout Europe and hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States on March 12, 1988. It reached number one in Australia in December 1987. Soon after, the song was specifically mentioned in The Manual by hit-makers The KLF as a positive example of 'genius' chart pop lyrics. "Never Gonna Give You Up" is listed as the best charting single of the 1980s in Australia, by the Kent Music Report, due to its longevity in the charts.

In keeping with silly Internet humor, the director of the image-sharing Web site 4chan, who goes by the handle "moot," decided he'd play a joke and change the word "egg" to "duck" every time a user posted a message. In time the phenomenon spread, and the word "eggroll" was replaced by "duckroll." When someone came up with the idea to redirect Internet links to an image of a duck on wheels, rickrolling's forebear, "duckrolling," was born.
In what was to become a pivotal moment in Internet hoax history, someone at 4chan took the now-useless Web link for the "Grand Theft Auto IV" trailer and duckrolled it.
But instead of linking to the image of a duck on wheels, he or she linked to the Rick Astley video on YouTube.
12,000,000 hits.

So what to do about a new rickroll?
Rickrolling works because:
1. A huge internet group got behind it.
2. The song was both lame and likeable at the same time.
3. Instant recognition of the song.
4. Persistance.
